It’s finally that time of the year once again. Award season is upon us and along with it the fashion that amuses us all. The first show of the year is the acclaimed Golden Globe Awards, which were held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. The location by itself screams glamour at the highest expression. The red carpet did not disappoint either it was full of that Hollywood air.
At least for me personally the styles strutting down the red carpet are way better than last year. On the other hand, there were also a couple of disappointments for example my expectations for Lupita were extremely high. Don’t get me wrong I don’t think she looked bad I just wanted more from her. It can definitely be said that metallics and pure white ruled. I mean if you’re a star it feels pretty practical to play the part and dress up.
From the long list of good-looking ensembles I have two that made me feel like I was on cloud nine. Both of the looks completely opposite but both so amazing. The Into the Woods actress Emily Blunt who wore a Michael Kors pleated white gown wowed me. Her look was simple but it made her look like a total goddess definitely my favorite. She paired it up with stunning Lorraine Schwartz turquoise earrings and bracelet.
Right up behind her is queen of the red carpet and well queen of everything really, Mrs. Jennifer Lopez. She wore a breathtaking Zuhair Murad gown that has me going crazy. The gorgeous beaded silver dress had a beautiful cape and frontal slit not to mention the perfect low V-neck cut. Not to mention her perfect hair or tan she was the personification of the word diva.
We just started this season so will be seeing much more from these gals plus all the others that have yet to amaze us with their style. So excited to see what they have in store for us next. They make us feel like Cinderella isn’t just a fairytale.
The fun award season is upon us. First off there were the TCA and now the most iconic music awards of the year: the MTV Video Music Awards. They are distinguished by the random moments and crazy events that have marked the history of the ceremony. Everyone always expects the unexpected and as anticipated they delivered, from wardrobe malfunction to a little bit of twerking. And let’s not forget the amazing fashion statements.
I absolutely loved how someway the looks took us back to the 90’s. First off upcoming artist Charli XCX performed during the red carpet with a feather cover up that just screamed Cher Horowitz. Following was Katy Perry who honored Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake’s 2001 all denim ensemble. The difference? This time Katy left it to Versace to design the custom made gown. To finalize the “throwback-fashion” Mrs. Amber Rose dared channel Rose McGowan 1999 look from Laura Dewitt that left very little to the imagination. Is it me or are we going back to the Clueless years? Yes please!
On the other hand, profuse stars choose classic all black looks. Some of these included Miley Cyrus, Kendall Jenner, Becky G and the cast of Orange Is The New Black. All of them looked stunning in the infinite color. Going the other way Rita Ora decided to go all red in a Jessica Rabbit gown that made her look voluptuous and sensual.
By now you may be guessing why the article is titled All hail the Queen right? Well personally there was one look that stole the show. It was so astonishing that it deserved a special tribute. The fit, the color, the fabric it was just perfection. It was non-other than Jennifer Lopez who wore a silver jaw-dropping Charbel Zoe dress. She was officially the queen of the red carpet. The cutout shimmering gown was simply spectacular. Now the real question is what was Casper Smart (also present at the VMA’s) thinking the whole night?
Music’s biggest night was all about the shimmer, glitter and metallics. The artists took the best they had (aside from being amazing performers) to the red carpet on a night that’s about dressing to impress. Bringing they’re A game, top celebrities competed to receive the title of best dressed. Most of them did an amazing job and designers did not fail to impress.
Clever as always Katy Perry had the most creative and amazing dress. I saw this dress last week while peeking at the Spring 2014 couture shows and instantly thought it had something different and edgy about it. Other than that I also thought only someone sharp and out there could pull it off, whom better than Miss. Perry. The Valentino couture gown inspired by Verdi’s La Traviata had 1,600 hours worth of work done only on its embroidery. This was absolutely the perfect dress to wear at the Grammy’s.
Glowing, Ciara made an amazing entrance in an all gold Pucci gown. The soon to be mommy wore her baby bump revealing she’s expecting yet looking flawless and beautiful as ever. I got really impressed by John Legend’s wife supermodel Chrissy Teigen. She looked beautiful and super sexy in a gold ensemble and a V plunging neckline, she definitely made an impact as more than the wife of this amazing artist. Last but not least the hated and loved Taylor Swift. In my opinion she looked like the perfect Barbie doll. Her Gucci chain dress was just absolute perfection. She may get criticized for they way she makes music or her attitude but there is nothing bad to say about this look. She was enviable by every single girl.
All around, they went all out, creating the ambience of glamour and stardom.
This past Saturday we celebrated the 20th annual Screen Actor Guild Awards otherwise known as the SAG Awards. The main theme for this article is evidently the fashion on the carpet but on top of that I want to address something else. I think A-listers as we call them get glorified with the outfits and some of the may we say “smaller” stars (here comes the term B-lister) don’t get that much credit for the effort they also make. To the point – I selected my favorite styles no matter the origin and based solely on my fashion likes and dislikes.
The last will be first right? So let’s talk about Emma Thompson’s catastrophic fashion fail. The top of the dress may look like a cute shirt but what is up with the skirt, is that on purpose? Not all vintage looks good honey. Furthermore, she wore flats, yes you read correctly flats they were Christian Louboutin non the less but still it doesn’t matter if the sole was red or not they are still flats. She is completely fined by this administration as the worst dressed at the show and I like her so much!
Now let’s talk shimmer and glitter! Sandra Bullock had a gorgeous simple emerald green Lanvin dress. Less is more on most occasions and she simply glowed. Following up is the sassy Sofia Vergara in an all silver Donna Karan Atelier ensemble. I absolutely adore the dress and agree that this look is her signature but I would love seeing her stepping out of her comfort zone. Claire Danes is not someone I look for on the red carpet (B-lister alert!) but I have to admit I was impressed. She had a Vionnet dress that looked so feminine and delicate. The sheer, the glitter, the lightness of the fabric made her look effortlessly flawless. Also the Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco looked ultra pretty in a Very Wang dress that had that old Hollywood glam to it.
Drum Roll Please! Now my all time favorite and breathtaking look of the night. This girl has come this year and from the look of it she is making people talk and not going anywhere. Lupita Nyong’o dazzled her way in a turquoise Gucci dress that has no way of describing it other than pure fashion perfection. This girl is pushing all sorts of boundaries in the fashion industry. I cannot wait to see more of her this upcoming year. She is starting to become one of my personal favorites.
In a nutshell these were the best and a little bit of the worst for the night. Can anyone say Grammys?
